Ottawa Wedding Photographer | Kathi Robertson Biography

For more than 15 years, Ottawa-based photographer Kathi Robertson has been creating images that captivate, charm and endure.

A fashion and commercial photographer by profession, Kathi brings a unique and special approach to wedding photography. Her fresh, original style perfectly captures the beauty of the day, the individual personality of the bride, groom and guests, and the spirit of the celebration. Her personable manner and unobtrusive shooting style puts guests at ease and helps turn the photographic experience from a chore into a joyful experience and integral element of the wedding celebration.

Kathi began her career as an assistant to internationally renowned photographers Michel de la Sabilere and Bruno Dayan. Since then, her fashion and magazine work has taken her to location shoots in Toronto, New York, Milan, Berlin, London and more. Her work, which today appears in the portfolios of many successful working models, has been published all over the world in top shelf magazines like Flare, Clin d'Oeil and others. As well, in the last ten years, Kathi's work has won her eight Canadian Model Photography awards. Notably, Kathi has the distinction of being Ryan Gosling's first photographer.

On the commercial side, Kathi has created advertising imagery for such prestigious international clients as American Express, Accenture, Les Ailes de la Mode, and more.

Interestingly, Kathi never actually planned to get into wedding photography. But when some of the models and magazine editors she'd worked with asked her to shoot their own wedding ceremonies, she found a whole new creative outlet.

"I discovered that a wedding shoot is much more personal," she says. "You're working with real people on the most special day of their entire lives. It's a huge responsibility" It's a responsibility Kathi takes very seriously.

"I never forget that I'm creating images to last a lifetime," she says. "Unlike editorial shots, they don't get thrown away when next month's issue comes out. The way I see it, my purpose is to create images that, decades from now, will transport people back to a time and a place that, without photography, would be lost forever."
